Automotive Diagnostic Disclaimer

STEP Diagnostics public guides and website content are provided for general informational and educational purposes. They are intended to illustrate a structured approach to diagnostic work. They do not provide a final diagnosis for a vehicle and do not replace professional judgment.

Effective date:

Confirm the exact vehicle

Diagnostic procedures, connector details, test values, software conditions, and fault criteria can vary by year, make, model, engine, equipment, calibration, and vehicle history. A guide associated with a DTC is not automatically applicable to every vehicle that stores that code.

Confirm the exact vehicle configuration and consult current service information before testing or repair.

Use appropriate safety procedures

Automotive testing and repair can involve high voltage, fuel pressure, hot or moving components, lifting equipment, hazardous materials, restraint systems, and other serious risks. Follow current manufacturer procedures, equipment instructions, workplace rules, and applicable laws. Use appropriate tools and personal protective equipment.

Do not perform work that exceeds your training, tools, equipment, or working conditions. Safety-critical or emergency conditions should be handled by a qualified professional and should not rely on this site as the sole source of information.

Test before replacing parts

Lists of possible fault areas are not proof that a listed component has failed. DTCs and symptoms can have multiple causes. Inspection, measurement, and verification on the actual vehicle are required before making a repair decision.

No guaranteed outcome

STEP Diagnostics does not guarantee that public content is complete, current for every vehicle, error-free, or sufficient to identify a fault. Vehicle condition, modifications, prior repairs, environmental conditions, data quality, and other factors can affect a diagnosis and repair result.

The technician or person performing the work remains responsible for the diagnostic process, repair decision, and post-repair verification.

Product status

STEP is being prepared for early access and is not yet a generally available production diagnostic service. Descriptions of planned guided workflows, integrations, vehicle coverage, pricing, and trial features may change during development and testing.

Third-party names

References to vehicle manufacturers, repair-information products, diagnostic codes, or other third-party names do not imply sponsorship, endorsement, or independent review by those parties.
