Start with the basic checks
Start by verifying the customer concern. Operate the vehicle and try to duplicate the condition. Then do a visual inspection for obvious mechanical or electrical damage. If you find an obvious cause for the reported concern, correct it if possible before going deeper. If nothing is visually evident, retrieve the GSM codes. When P0562 is the code driving the diagnosis, move into this low-voltage pinpoint path. If there are no codes present, stay with symptom-based diagnosis instead of forcing this code path.
Check whether low voltage is vehicle-wide
Next, use the scan tool to retrieve continuous memory codes from all modules. You are looking for low-voltage codes elsewhere on the vehicle. If other modules also show low-voltage faults, do not start by blaming the GSM. Diagnose the vehicle charging concern first. If no other modules have low-voltage codes, continue with the GSM path and check the battery condition and state of charge. Carry out the battery condition test. If the battery passes, go on to the GSM self-test step. If the battery does not pass, install a new battery before continuing.
Clear the GSM and see if P0562 returns
Now recheck the GSM. Clear all GSM diagnostic trouble codes with the scan tool. Turn the ignition off, then ignition on, wait 10 seconds, and run the GSM self-test. If P0562 comes back, continue to the circuit checks. If P0562 does not come back, the system is operating correctly at this time, and the code may have set from a previous low battery voltage condition.
Check GSM power and ground
For the GSM power circuit check, turn the ignition off and disconnect GSM connector C3245. Inspect that connector for damaged terminals or pushed-out terminals. Then turn the ignition on and measure C3245 Pin 1 to ground. The voltage needs to be greater than 11 volts. If it is, move on to the ground circuit check. If it is not greater than 11 volts, verify BCM fuse F7 is OK. If the fuse is OK, locate and repair the open in the circuit. If the fuse is not OK, locate and repair the short to ground. For the GSM ground check, turn the ignition off and measure C3245 Pin 9 to ground. The resistance needs to be less than 3 ohms. If it is, continue to the GSM operation check. If it is not less than 3 ohms, verify ground G201 is clean and properly fastened. If that ground point is OK, repair the open in the ground circuit.
Check connector integrity and confirm operation
Last, check for correct GSM operation. With the ignition off, disconnect and inspect the GSM connector again. Repair corrosion, damaged or bent pins, and pushed-out pins as needed. Reconnect the GSM connector and make sure it seats and latches correctly. Then operate the system and see whether the concern is still present. If the concern is still present, check for an applicable service bulletin or field action. If one applies, stop this test path and follow that bulletin. If none apply, install a new GSM. If the concern is no longer present, the system is operating correctly at this time, and the concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
