Start with verification

Before getting into pinpoint testing, start with the basic system checks and make sure the fault is actually present. Turn the ignition switch to ON, or select ON mode with the engine start-stop button. Clear the DTC with the HDS. Start the engine and wait for at least 1 second, then check the HDS for pending or confirmed codes. If P2720 comes right back, the failure is duplicated and you move into the circuit and solenoid checks. If it does not come back, treat it as an intermittent. At that point, the system is okay right now, and if captured data is available, try to reproduce the captured conditions instead of guessing.

Separate the solenoid from the rest of the circuit

Once P2720 is duplicated, the next move is to test the CVT lock-up clutch control solenoid valve. This is the split point in the diagnostic path. If the solenoid valve works properly, keep going toward the LCCLS control line between the solenoid harness and the PCM. If the solenoid valve does not work properly, go directly to the solenoid valve resistance check.

Check the LCCLS wire for an open

If the solenoid valve passes the functional check, turn the ignition switch to LOCK, or select OFF mode. Jump the SCS line with the HDS. Disconnect the solenoid wire harness 8P connector on the engine wire harness side, and disconnect PCM connector B, the 51P connector. Now check continuity on the LCCLS circuit between solenoid wire harness 8P connector terminal No. 8, the green wire, and PCM connector B terminal No. 4, also the green wire. If there is continuity, the LCCLS wire is okay. At that point, update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, then recheck. If P2720 goes away after the update, troubleshooting is complete. If it goes away with the known-good PCM substituted, replace the original PCM. If there is no continuity, repair the open in the LCCLS wire between the solenoid wire harness and the PCM.

Check solenoid valve resistance

If the solenoid valve did not pass the earlier check, remove the solenoid wire harness and measure resistance directly at the CVT lock-up clutch control solenoid valve 2P connector. The ignition is still in LOCK or OFF mode, the solenoid valve 2P connector is disconnected, and the solenoid wire harness 8P connector on the valve body side is disconnected. Measure between terminal No. 1 and terminal No. 2 of the solenoid valve connector. The specification is 4.9-6.6 Ω. If the resistance is in that range, the lock-up clutch control solenoid valve is okay, so replace the solenoid wire harness. If the resistance is not in that range, the lock-up clutch control solenoid valve is faulty, and the repair path is to replace the valve body.

Verify the repair

Keep verification separate from the pinpoint test. After the repair path you chose, clear the DTC, run the engine, wait for at least 1 second, and check again for pending or confirmed P2720. The takeaway is simple: prove the code is active first, decide whether the fault follows the solenoid side or the LCCLS control line, and only then commit to the wiring, harness, valve body, or PCM path.
