Check the open-wire side of the circuit

With the mode control motor 5P connector disconnected and climate control unit connector B, 24P, disconnected, inspect the M-VENT open-wire side in OFF IG Mode. Normal is less than 1 Ω. Then inspect the M-DEF open-wire side the same way, also in OFF IG Mode. Normal there is also less than 1 Ω. If either of these checks is not normal, treat it as a circuit problem and stay on the wiring path.

Check for shorts to ground

After the open-wire checks, move to the short-to-ground side of the same circuits. Use the proper open and short inspection method, then inspect the M-VENT circuit for a short to ground in OFF IG Mode. Normal is not shorted. Then inspect the M-DEF circuit for a short to ground in OFF IG Mode. Normal is not shorted. If either one is abnormal, the problem is in the circuit.

When the circuit checks pass

If the M-VENT and M-DEF circuit inspections all show normal, the diagnostic path points back to a problem with the remaining climate control unit. Keep that conclusion separate from the wiring tests: first prove the circuits, then make the control unit call only after the other inspection items are normal. After the fault is corrected, verify the repair and confirm B1240 stays gone.
