Check the VCC2 line for an open

For the VCC2 open check, turn the vehicle to OFF mode, jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait more than 1 minute. Disconnect PCM connector C, the 51P connector. Then check continuity between CVT speed sensor 3P connector terminal No. 3 and PCM connector C terminal No. 30. If there is continuity, the VCC2 wire is OK. At that point, update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, then recheck. If P0502 is gone after the PCM update, the troubleshooting is complete. If about 5 V is present, the SG2 wire is OK and you continue to the VEL DD signal-wire checks. If about 5 V is not present, repair the open in the SG2 wire between the CVT speed sensor and the PCM.

Check the VEL DD signal wire for a short to ground

Now check the VEL DD line for a short to body ground. Turn the vehicle to OFF mode, jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait more than 1 minute. With the CVT speed sensor 3P connector disconnected and PCM connector C, the 51P connector, disconnected, check continuity between CVT speed sensor 3P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. If there is continuity, repair the short to body ground in the VEL DD wire between the CVT speed sensor and the PCM. If there is no continuity, the VEL DD wire is not shorted, so continue with the open-circuit check.

Check the VEL DD signal wire for an open

With the same connectors disconnected, check continuity between CVT speed sensor 3P connector terminal No. 1 and PCM connector C terminal No. 32. If there is continuity, the VEL DD wire is OK, and the diagnostic result is to replace the CVT speed sensor. If there is no continuity, repair the open in the VEL DD wire between the CVT speed sensor and the PCM.

Verify the repair

After the circuit repair, PCM action, or speed sensor replacement called out by the test result, keep verification separate from the circuit tests.
