The vehicle may have an intermittent warning light or possible running complaints, but the diagnostic path stays focused: start with the basic troubleshooting approach, confirm the fault, then check the sensor B circuit connections, ground connections, the pulse plate, and finally the sensor itself if everything else checks normal.
Reproduce the operating conditions
Start by trying to duplicate the fault. Start the engine and let it idle for 10 seconds or more. While it is idling, watch the HDS OBD STATUS in PGM-FI for P0369. If the failure duplicates, the confirmation is complete. If it does not show up at idle, test-drive the vehicle for several minutes in the same captured range for Engine Speed and Vehicle Speed, then monitor the same HDS status for P0369. Again, if the failure duplicates, the confirmation is complete.
Check the CMP sensor B and PCM connections
Once the fault is confirmed, go after the electrical connections first. Check the connectors at CMP sensor B and at the PCM. You are looking for a secure connection and no loose terminals. If that inspection is abnormal, the problem is in the connections or terminals. If the connections are OK, keep moving in order.
Check engine and body ground connections
Next, inspect the engine ground and body ground connections. Again, the call here is secure connection and no loose terminals. If this check is abnormal, treat it as a connection or terminal problem. If the grounds are OK, do not condemn the sensor yet; continue to the mechanical side of the signal.
Inspect CMP pulse plate B
For the pulse plate inspection, remove the cylinder head cover first. Then visually inspect CMP pulse plate B for looseness or damage. If that inspection is abnormal, the problem is with CMP pulse plate B. If the pulse plate has no looseness or damage, the path moves on to the remaining CMP sensor B decision.
Make the CMP sensor B call only after the earlier checks pass
If the connector checks, ground checks, and CMP pulse plate B inspection all indicate normal condition, then the remaining cause is determined to be CMP sensor B. The key is the order: do not jump straight to the sensor until the circuit connections, grounds, and pulse plate have been checked.
Verify separately and close
Keep verification separate from the fault isolation. Use the same confirmation logic: the idle check, or the captured road-test range for Engine Speed and Vehicle Speed, while watching the HDS status for P0369.
